Limescale treatment and water softening: what’s the difference?

An ion-exchange water softener removes calcium and magnesium ions using a resin, usually regenerated with salt. Physical limescale treatment takes a different approach: it is intended to influence scale behaviour while retaining the water’s minerals.

Before comparing options, understand your goal. Are you looking to change measured hardness, address deposits, protect equipment, or treat a specific water quality problem? These are different requirements. Ask for an assessment based on your water and installation.

Uneven heating? Start with a system assessment.

Cold spots, unusual noise and uneven warmth can have several causes, from trapped air and balancing issues to the condition of the heating water. A symptom alone is not a diagnosis.

A qualified installer can review the system, check its water condition and establish an appropriate treatment and maintenance plan. Tell them the age of your installation, recent servicing and any treatments already used.

OXYDO is designed for the water inside the heating circuit. It does not replace the boiler or heat-pump manufacturer’s servicing requirements.

Five things to prepare for your water assessment.

Start with your location and property type. A single apartment, family house and busy hotel have different needs. A rough picture of daily water demand is useful too.

If available, collect your water hardness reading or latest analysis, the diameter of the supply pipe and a photo of the installation area. For heating questions, include the type and age of your heating system.

Describe the issue in your own words. Where do deposits appear? When did heating performance change? Which equipment is affected? Useful context helps the team give a more relevant answer.
